OTTO is Germany's second-largest marketplace and the one most Turkish and Eastern European sellers reach for after Zalando. Its image rules are less rigid than Zalando's but the zoom threshold and the image sequence are where listings usually fall short.
| Requirement | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum size | 480 × 960 px | Official floor — well below what you should actually ship. |
| For zoom | At least 2048 px on a side | Required for the zoom function to activate. |
| Maximum side length | ≈ 4500 px | |
| Formats | JPG or PNG | TIFF and BMP are rejected. |
| Colour space | RGB (sRGB profile) | CMYK causes colour distortion. |
| File size | Keep under 10 MB | JPEG quality 80–92 avoids visible artefacts. |
| Requirement | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Style | Cut-out (Freisteller) | The product isolated, not a lifestyle scene. |
| Background | Light neutral — white, off-white, light grey or light beige | More permissive than Amazon: exact white is not mandatory. |
| Product coverage | ≈ 85% of the frame |
OTTO publishes a recommended order for the gallery, and following it measurably helps because the platform's own merchandising expects it:
Five to eight images is the recommended range. Listings with fewer than five tend to underperform against category competitors regardless of image quality.
Sellers who arrive from Amazon usually over-restrict themselves:
RGB 255,255,255 is not required. Two things are worth knowing beyond the specification sheet.
First, German marketplace shoppers return heavily — fashion return rates on German platforms are among the highest in Europe. Imagery that represents fit, fabric weight and true colour accurately is not a nice-to-have; it directly reduces the returns that erode margin.
Second, if you are producing for OTTO you are almost certainly also producing for Zalando. The two have incompatible aspect ratio habits, so plan for it: shoot or generate at a resolution high enough that a 1:1.44 Zalando crop and an OTTO-friendly frame can both be cut from the same master without upscaling.
The official minimum is 480 × 960 px, but images need at least 2048 px on a side for the zoom function to work. The maximum side length is approximately 4500 px.
The main image must be a cut-out on a light neutral background — white, off-white, light grey or light beige are all acceptable. Unlike Amazon, exact pure white is not mandatory. The product should fill about 85% of the frame.
Five to eight is the recommended range, in this order: cut-out main image, two to three detail shots, an application or size reference, then a rear or side view, followed by variants or function graphics.
JPG and PNG only, in the RGB colour space with an sRGB profile. TIFF and BMP are rejected, and CMYK files cause colour distortion.
